New benches for the Barrow in Athy
The benches just to the right of the river at the Quay are to be upgraded
AN AREA along the Barrow in the centre of Athy is set for new benches, but there may be a significant delay before they are installed.
At the April 20 meeting of Athy Municipal District (MD), cllr Aoife Breslin asked the council to confirm “when the upgrading of benches and provision of an accessible pathway at Barrow Quay, Athy will commence?”.
Senior executive officer in the Strategic Projects and Public Realm (SPPR) section Pamela Pender said that the section is working with the area office to get the site ready for the new benches.
The response further detailed that SPPR will acquire the new benches but that there could be a delay of 14 weeks after ordering before receiving the benches from some suppliers.
Barrow Quay is just to the south of Crom-a-Boo bridge in the middle of town, and the new benches would likely be popular during summer months in particular.
