The industrialisation of the western approaches of Naas is to continue with the news that permission has been granted to a building in Jigginstown to house 19 starter units.

The 2,900sqm building got the green light last week from the planners a little over a year after a firm called Naas South Developments Ltd submitted its application.

Full permissions for an additional 230sqm café, and a 450sqm single storey diner were not given at this time due mainly to traffic concerns, but both were given an outline permit, which means they will both have to make separate applications for full permission in the future.

The1.59Ha (4ac) greenfield site is located between the M7 and the ring road (R445), about 250m north of the B&Q and Lidl roundabout on the Newbridge road.

Initially, the planning section was concerned that the proposed diner – with its own independent access – could become and after-hours destination in its own right, and so jeopardise the continued viability of the centre of Naas.

However, they were reassured when the developer declared its willingness “to accept a condition to restrict the opening hours of the café to coincide with the business hours of the rest of the site”.

The planners were also worried about the flood risks in relation to the existing pond on the western boundary, but the developers have promised to provide “dry attenuation basins which will only kick in during storm events".
