At the most recent meeting of Naas Municipal District, cllr Evie Sammon asked the council to provide an update on the long sought after pedestrian crossing on the Dublin Road in Naas Town Centre.
The council’s response – issued by acting senior engineer in sustainable transport and traffic management Chris Galvin – said that a design has been prepared for the crossing and that once it is approved it will be circulated to the councillors.
Cllr Sammon thanked the council executive for “the first positive answer” that she has gotten on the matter.
It emerged in April of last year that €50,000 from Local Property Tax was allocated for the delivery of the crossing near the Meadows & Byrne store.
Cllr Sammon expressed doubts last April over whether the council’s active travel team would deliver the crossing in 2025.
Striking a tone of frustration at the most recent meeting, she noted that “here we are in April 2026, looking at a design”.
Cllr Sammon expressed her hope that the crossing will be delivered this year, saying that funding is not an issue due to the €50,000 allocated from Local Property Tax.
