Brian Flanagan has made one change to the Kildare line up from the team that so impressively beat Fermanagh in the opening round of the Allianz Football League for Sunday’s trip to Markievicz Park to play Sligo.

Corner back Harry O’Neill was replaced with about ten minutes of that win remaining and manager Flanagan later said that he hoped it was just because of a touch of cramp. However, his place in the team is taken by Ryan Burke. Burke was late joining up with the squad due to Caragh’s run to the All-Ireland Intermediate semi-finals. He was also involved with Maynooth University in the Sigerson Cup and started in their quarter-final defeat to Ulster University last Wednesday.

Paddy McDermott started in that game and Rian Teahan came on as a substitute and they both come in the Kildare squad on the bench. While is no place in the matchday squad for Daniel Flynn there is the welcome return of Ben McCormack.

Sunday’s game offers Kildare a chance to build on that excellent win over Fermanagh. They will be going into the game on a high but Sligo will be licking their wounds a little after an opening round loss to Offaly. That makes them a dangerous proposition for Kildare but also offers a big opportunity. A win would move Kildare six points clear of what many would have seen as one of their biggest promotion rivals and that could be significant even with only two rounds played.
