OVER 200 refugees living in a Dublin student accommodation building have been issued letter from the Department of Children and Integration (DCEDIY) stating that they must leave their accommodation, with the majority to be moved to Kildare as well as facilities in Swords and Bray, as reported by RTÉ.

The Department said: “In the case of Dublin Hubble Living student accommodation, the provider has informed the Department that they will require the properties to be vacated as they will have contractors on site to undertake repair and renovation work.”

“As a result, Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection will be relocated from the Dublin Hubble Living student accommodation in the next days.”

“Further information will be provided to residents and providers as soon as possible.”

One family in particular was distressed to find out that they were to be separated, with the parents scheduled to be moved to accommodation at an equestrian centre in Kildare and their two children, both under the age of 12, scheduled to be moved to Swords, Dublin.

The DCEDIY responded to the situation, noting that the decision was “an administrative error and will be corrected.”

Last month, families in the accommodation requested to stay until the summer, to allow their children to finish their school year in their current school.

The Department agreed to pause the move for three weeks, but many received letters were issued yesterday Wednesday 12 March, informing residents that they would have to leave tomorrow with only hours to prepare.

The DCEDIY said in response to this:

“In December 2024, BOTPs in this property were informed that the contract with Dublin Hubble Student Living would be ending in March 2025, and informed them of their options to make their own private arrangements for accommodation if they wished to stay in the area.”

“There have been supports provided, and engagement with the Department since that time. Following the recent pause on relocations, the Department engaged with the provider to seek an extension, but this was not possible. Letters were given to the BOTPs on 12 March informing them of the move and their follow-on accommodation.”
