Plan to turn former Kildare garda station into housing

Ballitore garda station

Kildare County Council is planning to convert the former Ballitore Garda Station into a six-home social housing development.

The local authority’s Chief Executive’s Report for June states that a design team has been appointed for the project.

Official planning documents for the scheme show that the plan includes two refurbished housing units within the existing Garda station and garage. It is proposed that one of the units would be a two-bed home whilst the other would be a three-bed.

Four new homes are also proposed, comprising two one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units.

The site notice states that, following a preliminary examination, the planning authority concluded “that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and that an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required”.

Members of the public have until 4pm on July 15 to make submissions or observations to Kildare County Council on the proposed development. They can be made online on the council’s consultations portal or in writing to the following address: Conor Moore, Architectural Services Department, at Áras Chill Dara in Naas.
