A PLANNING application has been submitted for a major redevelopment of former pub The Keg on Main Street, Newbridge, which would see the premises converted into a guesthouse and restaurant complex.
Applicant Paul Mullen is seeking permission for a change of use of the existing pub at ground and first-floor level to a guesthouse providing 25 bedrooms.
Plans also include a reception area, coffee dock, linen storage, additional storage spaces, and male and female sanitary facilities.
The proposal further involves converting a rear ground-floor welfare office into guesthouse accommodation, while the currently vacant basement level would be redeveloped into a restaurant and bar with ancillary staff facilities.
Additional works outlined in the application include the installation of a traditional timber shopfront with external signage facing Main Street, as well as a first-floor extension to the rear of the building.
A new extension is also planned featuring a partial green roof and partial flat roof fitted with photovoltaic solar panels.
The development would incorporate a new internal passenger lift serving basement, ground, and first-floor levels, alongside a new accommodation stair.
Plans also provide for upgrades to existing external doors and windows, alterations to the current ramped and stepped entrance, and modifications to foul and surface water drainage systems, together with all associated site works.
A decision on the application is due from Kildare County Council on 14 April 2026.
