Popular Kildare swimming spot 'not suitable' for designated status

Carnalway Bridge
Kildare County Council has confirmed that the popular swimming spot at Carnalway near Kilcullen is not suitable to be identified as a designated bathing area.
This was revealed through a response to a query from cllr Tracey O’Dwyer at a recent meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, asking if the area is a suitable designated bathing location.
The council stated that the location at Carnalway does not meet the necessary criteria to be designated as a bathing location.
The primary reason cited is that the area is not located on public lands, making it ineligible.
Additionally, the council noted that it does not have the budget for the required water quality assessments or the necessary health and safety measures needed.
This decision means that Carnalway will not receive official recognition as a bathing location, and visitors are advised to be mindful of water safety when using the area.
