PLANS have been lodged with Kildare County Council for age-friendly housing in Robertstown.

Applicant Owen Kenny submitted the planning application on 5 May seeking permission to construct five single-storey detached shared community cottages at Robertstown West.

According to the application, the proposed cluster development would be restricted to residents aged over 55 and is designed as an age-friendly community living scheme.

The plans also include the upgrading of an existing agricultural entrance to create a shared recessed entrance, connection to the public foul sewer network, and all associated site works.

The planning document indicates that the development would address a need for supporting older people to live independently while living in age-appropriate homes and to offer the community opportunities for “down-sizing” and “right-sizing”.

A decision from Kildare County Council is due next month, on 29 June.
