Recruitment market for engineer 'challenging' for Kildare Co Council

Engineering graduates are in huge demand,

FILLING an engineer's position in Kildare County Council has proven difficult.

The temporary position in the building control section is currently vacant with the council finding the recruitment market to be “very challenging” according to a council representative.

At a recent meeting of Naas Municipal District, cllr Fintan Brett expressed frustration, claiming that “nothing is happening” in building control due to the shortage of staff.

Cathaoirleach Seamie Moore expressed his disappointment at how long it was taking to replace the most recent incumbent of the role taking into consideration that the council knew the vacancy would come up beforehand.

Cllr Brett questioned the council on when the role would be filled, with the response being that the council is “endeavouring to fill this vacancy” but that the process is proving to be a difficult one due to the temporary nature of the position.

The council added that recent changes in engineering grades may help in the recruitment process and expressed hope that that the role will be filled in 2026.
