THE cost of repairing a metre of footpath can be up to €200, councillors at the recent meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) were told. The news was in response to a question on repairs needed in Newbridge estates.

Cllr Tom McDonnell had asked for an update on footpath repairs for Lakeside Park, Dara Park, Highfield and Allenview Heights. The answer given was the MD office will consider the matter in the schedule of works for 2025.

Saying that there are people in wheelchairs trying to negotiate footpaths in bad repair at the locations, the councillor asked when the schedule would be ready.

The MD Engineer, Brenda Cuddy, said the office will assess the works in January and probably deliver the schedule in February or March.

"We have a very limited footpath budget and we try to share it out," she said, then revealing the costs of between €150-€200 per metre.
