Residential development proposed for Athy

A PLANNING application has been submitted for a new 32-home residential development on Geraldine Road in Athy, Co Kildare.

The application, lodged by Bluehume Limited, proposes the construction of 14 two-storey semi-detached houses and 18 apartments across three two-storey blocks.

The housing mix would include 14 three-bedroom houses, along with six one-bedroom apartments and 12 two-bedroom apartments.

The development would also provide a new vehicular and pedestrian entrance onto Geraldine Road, as well as a foul pumping station.

A total of 39 car parking spaces and 53 bicycle parking spaces are proposed as part of the scheme.

Plans also include public and communal open spaces, landscaping and new footpaths, along with internal roads and public lighting.

The site is situated in the north-eastern part of Athy, approximately 1.1km north-east of the town centre. Geraldine Road provides direct access to the N78 Dublin Road, one of the main arterial routes through Athy, which is located approximately 400 metres south-west of the site.

The planning documents describe the site as being in a highly accessible and sustainable location, with a range of public transport services within walking distance.

Athy Railway Station is around 800 metres from the site and several bus services are also available within walking distance.

Kildare County Council is due to make a decision on the development on 23 September.
