IT has been confirmed that a road works to the R445 between Monasterevin and Kildare Town will take place in order to accommodate large volumes of traffic coming to and from the new biomethane plant in Monasterevin by manufacturer Evergreen Agricultural Enterprises Ltd.

At the recent meeting of Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting, cllr Pat Balfe tabled a motion seeking details on all works and related communications with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). He said it was vital to ensure that the route, which is set to carry additional traffic including HGVs transporting feedstock and digestate to and from the biomethane facility, is adequately prepared and maintained.

In a written response the council’s Acting Senior Engineer with Capital Projects confirmed that upgrade works are proposed on the R445 as a condition of planning permission for the biomethane plant.

These works include carriage widening and realignment, the provision of a right-turning lane, road resurfacing, public lighting, and footpath provision.

He added that, at present, the transport department is not progressing any other schemes at this location beyond those linked to the planning condition.
