‘Significant improvement’ coming to Athy train station

The announcement of a ‘significant improvement’ coming to Athy’s train station has received a warm welcome locally.

Local councillor Mark Leigh revealed that a new lift and pedestrian bridge will be built, enhancing accessibility and convenience for all passengers.

“This development aims to make travel easier for everyone, especially those with reduced mobility, parents with strollers, and cyclists,” he explained.

“The new bridge will provide a safe and efficient way to cross between platforms, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable journey for all. Construction will begin in September.

“A positive move from Iarnród Éireann and a huge investment in Athy and something the Labour Party in Athy has called for, for years.”
