MOTORISTS caught travelling at almost double the speed limit during a recent checkpoint in Kilberry have been issued fines and penalty points.
The Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out a speed enforcement operation in the area following complaints from members of the public.
During the operation, gardaí recorded six detections for speeding. Among the most serious breaches were drivers travelling at 96km/h and 88km/h – well above the posted limit of 50km/h.
All motorists detected were issued Fixed Charge Penalty Notices of €160 and received three penalty points.
Gardaí reminded drivers that speed limits are in place to protect everyone in the community, particularly in lower speed zones where there is increased pedestrian and residential activity.
Kildare gardaí said: “Speed limits are in place to protect everyone in our communities – especially in lower speed zones where pedestrian and residential activity is higher. Please slow down and drive responsibly.”
