THE GOVERNMENT announced that six schools across Kildare will proceed with deep energy retrofit works this summer, under the ambitious REPowerEU Pathfinder Programme.

The €86 million investment marks a transformative step toward achieving Ireland’s climate action goals and modernising the country’s educational infrastructure.

Senator Fiona O’Loughlin welcomed the good news and said: “This is not only good for the environment but will also enhance the learning environments for students and working conditions for teachers and staff.”

The Kildare schools included in the programme are Killashee National School, Allen NS, Robertstown National School, Scoil Naisiunta Bhride, Kilberry National School, and SN Ide Naofa.

The retrofit works, which include heat pump installations, LED lighting, heat recovery ventilation systems, and electric vehicle charging points, will bring each participating school up to a Building Energy Rating (BER) of at least B.

Additionally, 24 schools will receive associated electrical upgrades supported by ESB Networks to facilitate the new low-carbon systems.

Senator O’Loughlin said: “I would like to congratulate the schools and thank them for taking part in this initiative. I look forward to seeing the benefits of these upgrades realised in classrooms across Kildare.”
