A FEASIBILITY study will be carried out to determine suitable buildings for the installation of rooftop solar panels in the Kildare-Newbridge area of the county.

At a recent meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD, cllr Rob Power tabled a motion seeking a list of local authority buildings appropriate for rooftop solar energy generation, along with an implementation plan to roll out installations under existing national or Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) schemes.

In response, the council confirmed that it has prepared a draft schedule of buildings under its ownership or control within the municipal district.

Due to the number of properties involved, officials said consultations will now take place with the various council sections responsible for those buildings.

An initial feasibility study will also be carried out to determine each building’s suitability for photovoltaic (PV) solar installations.
