A very nervous mother was given an interim barring order against her addicted and violent son after the judge recognised her from a previous court.

The woman appeared at the Family Law sessions at Athy District Court last week (24 September) to petition for greater protection after her previous court Order was completely ignored by the son.

“I remember you. You were in Naas (court) last Thursday asking me for a safety order, and your son swore at you in the court,” Judge Zaidan remembered.

“He put a knife to my throat that morning, and has punched me on a number of occasions. He was looking for the keys to my car, because he wanted to go and get some more crack cocaine,” she said.

“Luckily, I had hid the keys in my bra, and escaped to a friend’s house. When I returned, he had broken every window on the car,” she said.

For this breach, the son was immediately arrested and has been remanded in Cloverhill since.

An interim order for seven days is all a judge can do without the respondent present.

Noting this, Judge Zaidan told the woman: He will be brought there (Naas court) from prison”.
