Sophie Ngai was the star of the show for Kilcullen on Tuesday night when she scored six goals in the opening half her team as they beat St Laurence's by
6-7 to 3-8 in their Kildare LGFA Senior Division 1 league tie.
In a repeat of last year’s senior championship semi-final, Kilcullen were very impressive on the night as they got the better of their local rivals.
Kilcullen manager, Ed Burke, said he was impressed with his side and in particular with the performance of sharpshooting Ngai.
“I haven’t seen a player score six goals in a half before. Sophie was very clinical on the night. They were great team goals though, none of them were flukey. We have been creating numerous goal chances; the one difference was we took our chances the last night.”
Burke admitted there was a chance that Ngai would be closer marked for the rest of the season, but he said he would be content if that happened.
“If teams want to man mark one of our players or put two or three players on one of our players, happy days. That means it will give us more space in other areas. We are very lucky we have an extremely strong squad. We have 26 players in our squad, they are all good players, and we have two girls with the Kildare senior squad. Every game we play in the league we make sure that all of our outfield players get game time.”

The experienced coach went onto state there is great depth in the adult ladies’ football section of the club.
“We’ve won our first three games in the league. We have a second team as well, I think they’ve won their first two league games. We have around 50 ladies playing football for the club, which is huge. Some of them maybe think they are past senior football, and some of them probably think they’re not there yet and looking to develop there. We will definitely be looking at those players."
