Suzanne Doyle elected Mayor in Kildare-Newbridge district

The Kildare - Newbridge Municipal District Committee appointed cllr Suzanne Doyle as Mayor and cllr Brian O’Loughlin as Deputy Mayor

Fianna Fáil councillor Suzanne Doyle has been appointed as the new Mayor (Cathaoirleach) for the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.

Her appointment was announced at the annual meeting of the Municipal District on Wednesday, 15 July, with cllr Doyle’s Fianna Fáil colleague in the Kildare Local Electoral Area (LEA), Brian O’Loughlin, remaining as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Doyle succeeds another party colleague, cllr Noel Heavey, in the role.

Cllr Rob Power proposed cllr Doyle for the position and praised her for her “brilliant contributions to discussions”. 

Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer seconded the proposal, while cllr Tom McDonnell also expressed a wish to second it. No other councillors were nominated for the role.

Cllr Doyle paid tribute to outgoing Mayor Heavey, describing him as “very passionate about Newbridge but very fair minded”. 

Cllr Power complimented him for keeping councillors informed about matters such as upcoming briefings.

Kildare South TD Seán Ó’ Fearghaíl congratulated both of his party colleagues on their appointments, describing cllr Doyle as “a force of nature” who “has helped transform our community and make it a better place to live”, while praising cllr O’Loughlin as “an exceptionally hard working and committed public representative”.
