A TEENAGE boy is in critical condition in hospital after an e-bike crash in Portlaoise late last night.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the single-vehicle crash, which happened shortly after 11pm on the town’s Stradbally road.

The boy aged in his early teens was a passenger on an electric bike, which was driven by a young man in his late teens.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the passenger, who suffered serious injuries, was admitted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, where he remains in critical condition today.

The N80 Stradbally road was closed by gardaí with diversions in place, as forensic collision investigators examined the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses or anyone with information, including those with dashcam or camera footage from the relevant time, to contact them at Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.

In a statement this afternoon, gardaí said: ‘Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious single-vehicle collision on Saturday, 20 June.

'The driver, an adult male in his late teens, received medical assessment at the scene. It’s understood no other vehicle was involved.'

The scene has been examined by garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since reopened.
