THE third quarter of this year has been targeted for the appointment of a contractor to deliver the delayed 77-unit housing development at Ardrew in Athy.

This was revealed at last week's meeting of Athy Municipal District, where cllr Aoife Breslin asked for an update on the construction of the housing units.

Kildare County Council's response stated the council is currently assessing submissions as part of the first stage of the tender process for the appointment of a contractor.

The council expects that the second stage of the tender process will be reached before the end of this month.

The response further detailed that “subject to completion of procurement procedures, a contract award is targeted for Q3 2026".

It emerged in November that funding had been approved for the housing development after the Department of Housing’s unexpected decision last June to pause the scheme due to mounting costs.

The project at Ardrew is part of a social housing bundle known as “Project Barrow” along with three sites that are located within the Dublin City Council area.
