Three High Court orders secured over illegal Curragh camps

THE MINISTER for defence Helen McEntee has said that her department is working closely with the Chief State Solicitor’s Office (CSSO) to address illegal encampments across The Curragh.
The update was given to local Kildare South TD Mark Wall concerning the ongoing issue of illegal encampments on The Curragh, and comes amid ongoing efforts by the Department of Defence and An Garda Síochána to address unauthorised occupation of lands around The Curragh.
According to the Department of Defence, three High Court orders have been obtained since the end of May against individuals in illegal occupation on the Curragh plains.
The department said the orders had been served on those in encampments, with a Garda operation subsequently carried out to enforce the orders.
The minister has also said that officials are actively pursuing legal avenues to remove a further illegal encampment located on the edge of The Curragh.
Deputy Wall has welcomed the confirmation that legal action is being pursued, following his continued representations on the issue.
He said: “I am continuing to raise this with the minister for defence to ensure that The Curragh is given the respect and protection it deserves.”
