TRANSPORT Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will meet with residents of Moone and Timolin next week to address concerns over the controversial pilot cycleway and road safety works along the R448.

Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, confirmed that TII officials have accepted his invitation to hold a public workshop on the issue. The meeting will take place in Moone Hall on Tuesday, September 2, from 3–7pm.

After their last public meeting, the Moone Timolin Positive Action Group wanted to meet with TII to express their concerns and try to understand the rationale behind the project's design.

“In the first instance, we asked for the scheme to be paused until TII had explained the scheme to us and at the very least to take our concerns on board,” said Timolin Moone Positive Action Group Chairperson, Mark Hilliard.

A key development emerging from the meeting was the involvement of Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Daragh O’Brien. It was confirmed that the issue had been raised with the minister.

“There was much comment, and consternation, in the Moone and Timolin communities recently regarding the national pilot cycleway and road safety works which commenced recently,” Minister Heydon said.

He added the workshop would give locals an opportunity to put their views to officials.

“I look forward to seeing many people drop in to discuss the project, to hear the rationale for it from the designers and officials, and to highlight their perspective of its impact locally,” he added.

The workshop is open to all residents, with TII representatives and the project’s design team expected to be in attendance to answer questions and hear concerns. Residents are especially invited to the Parish Hall at 8pm to discuss the results of the workshop, with local representatives expected to attend.
