THE ELLISTOWN area is being assessed for traffic calming solutions after it was brought to the council’s attention that the area was a “huge risk” particularly at night.
The issue was brought to Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District by cllr Noel Connolly, who asked that the council assess the approaches to Ellistown to “ensure the improved safety of pedestrians and cars leaving Ellistown GAA grounds.
The motion also includes that there is a local creche at the location, as well as the GAA pitch cul-de-sac, Redhills Park, and the L7011 junction with the Watergrange and Mynagh roads, located just after the brow of a hill.
Cllr Connolly further called for the implementation of traffic calming measures and additional lighting to address the “perfect storm of different junctions”.
Kildare County Council responded that the municipal district office will assess the locations listed to assess whether additional traffic calming measures are required.
