The late Eddie Kilpatrick

Tributes were paid to an Athy man following his sad passing.

Eddie Kilpatrick was remembered by his friends as an “absolute gentleman” and a talented craftsmen.

He had been a stalwart of Athy Men’s Shed and the group posted a heartfelt tribute to their friend on the group's Facebook page.

“It's with the heaviest heart I have to inform everyone of our dear friend and colleague's departure. Eddie passed away and will be sorely missed by all our shed members. Eddie was an integral part of our shed, he was there at its inception.

"Together with Ray (RIP) Mick Osbourne, Dave and all the lads they started a great community adventure. Eddie was a master painter. I don't think there is anyone hasn't got advice or used his skills in the town.

"Eddie was a witty individual, a great darts player he told me he thought Sonny Knowles how to sing. He himself was a good singer. There was never a cross word, well except when I beat him in the darts.”

The group concluded: “May you rest in peace my shed dad I will always love and miss you. Tell Sonny I was asking for him.

"Deepest condolences to Ann and all the family."

Patricia Berry of the Athy Town Promoters said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eddie. He was an absolute gentleman — always kind, always helpful, and someone who gave so generously of his time.

“Over the years, he was involved in so many projects and events with Athy Men’s Shed, and he was never slow to pick up a paintbrush or lend a hand, no matter what was asked of him.

“Our thoughts are with Eddie’s family and friends at this very difficult time, and especially with everyone at Athy Men’s Shed, who have lost a truly valued and much-loved long-time member.”
