Tributes paid to 'gentleman' former Athy councillor

Tributes have been paid to a former Kildare county councillor Reggie Lalor who passed away on Tuesday.
Reggie Lalor of Whitecastle Lawns, Athy passed away peacefully at St. Bridget’s Hospice, The Curragh surrounded by his family.
A former Fine Gael public representative, Minister Martin Heydon described him as a “gentleman, a mentor and a friend” on social media.
“He cared passionately about Athy, as a county and town councllor, as a businessman in the town with his pub and then working in insurance, he served Athy with distinction”.
Mr Lalor was also involved with a host of local good causes including the Lions Club, Irish Wheelchair Association and Golf Club.
Mr Lalor is predeceased by his sons Fintan and Baby Neil, parents Michael and May. He is survived by his wife Liz, sons Derek and Aiden, grandchildren Niall, Clodagh, Caoimhe and Sadbh, daughters-in-law Orlaith and Liz, sisters Gertie, Honor, and Mary, extended family and friends.
Minister Heydon added: “His smile and quick wit will be greatly missed by all of us who had the pleasure to know him, no more so than for Liz, Derek and Aiden.”
Mr Lalor will repose at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Athy on Sunday evening 27 July from 5pm to 7pm with Rosary at 6.30pm. Removal at 10.45am on Monday morning 28 July, to arrive at St Michael’s Parish Church, Athy for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St Michael’s (New) Cemetery, Athy.
