Two men appear in court in connection with cocaine worth €5 million in Allenwood

Gardaí found 72 kilos of cocaine valued at an estimated €5 million in Allenwood last week
TWO men appeared in Naas District Court last week in connection with the seizure of €5 million of cocaine in Allenwood.
Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau found 72 kilos of cocaine valued at an estimated €5 million between a van and at a premises in the Allenwood area on Tuesday 11 February,
A 61-year-old Dutchman and a 56-year-old Irish man were arrested pursuant to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 in relation to facilitating and enhancing drug distribution activities for an organised crime group.
The men appeared in Naas District Court last Thursday, 13 February. No bail application was made by the Dutchman and he was remanded to appear via video link on February 19.
The Irish man, who made no reply when charged in relation to the drugs seizure, wanted to apply for bail through his solicitor.
With no solicitor present until the afternoon, the matter was adjourned to allow a bail application at a later date.
Following the operation, Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis of the Organised and Serious Crime said: "This is another significant seizure of cocaine destined for the Irish market.”
