Unfinished work holding up taking in charge of Athy estate

Kildare County Council officials are awaiting documentation from a property developer before the local authority can take over responsibility for an estate in Athy.
This emerged at the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District, where cllr Aoife Breslin asked for an update on the taking in charge of the Gallowshill estate.
Senior executive engineer in building and development control Liam McNeela issued the council’s report on the matter, noting that a taking in charge request for the estate was received in August of last year. Mr McNeela further explained that since then council officials have been in touch with the developer to move the process along but are still waiting for the latter party to send in the required surveys and paperwork.
Mr McNeela added that the council will keep working with the developer to make sure any unfinished work is completed, such as the road surface in the estate.
Speaking at the meeting, cllr Breslin expressed her frustration, saying “we take one step forward, and sometimes we’re taking two steps backwards” with regards to the estate.
