Up to €5k grant for lead pipe removal in Kildare
The grant covers 100 per cent of the qualifying work between €750 and up to €5,000
KILDARE County Council has encouraged householders to avail of the ongoing Domestic Lead Remediation Grant Scheme, which provides financial assistance for the replacement of lead piping or related fittings connected to a domestic water supply.
The grant covers 100 per cent of the qualifying work between €750 and up to €5,000.
Works less than €750 will not qualify for the grant.
Applicants must provide evidence that lead pipes and related fittings require replacement when submitting an application.
The evidence can come in the form of a notification from Uisce Éireann, a certificate by a laboratory accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board, or a notification from a registered building professional.
The scheme is supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage the scheme aims to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water.
Lead piping was commonly used in plumbing systems in Ireland up to and including the 1970s and some people may still be getting water through these systems, and replacing remains the most effective way to reduce this exposure.
Only domestic residences qualify for the scheme and must be the applicant’s normal place of residence.
Long-term tenants of a property must have the permission of the owner to apply.
Private holiday homes, properties operated on a commercial basis and properties owned by local authorities, housing associations and the Health Service Executive (HSE) are not eligible.

Householders whose drinking water comes through lead pipes located outside their property boundary can apply for Uisce Éireann'sâ¯Customer Opt-In Lead Pipe Replacement Scheme.
Under this scheme, Uisce Éireann will replace lead pipes on the public side of the property boundary free of charge.
