Urgent action required for second bridge in Newbridge
Newbridge Main Street
NEWBRIDGE representatives have called for urgent action to progress long-awaited second River Liffey bridge. The bridge has been an ongoing project aimed at easing congestion in the town.
At a recent sitting of Kildare-Newbridge MD, cllr Chris Pender stressed the importance of the bridge in relieving traffic congestion and improving active-travel connectivity. Members agreed that the council should write to the transport minister and other relevant ministers to prioritise the project.
Cllr Pender proposed a second motion calling on the council to prioritise traffic management and pedestrian safety works at Liffey Hall in advance of the delivery of the second bridge.
He noted that the area will form a significant section of the proposed Newbridge Southern Orbital Route.
In response, the municipal district Office confirmed that it will carry out an assessment of pedestrian safety at Liffey Hall and identify potential locations for works, should funding become available in the future.
