What's the future for Curragh Post Office?

The historic Curragh Post Office
Kildare County Council is to write to the Department of Defence seeking information on the proposed future use of the now-closed Post Office building located at the Curragh Camp.
The motion, tabled by cllr Pat Balfe, was discussed at a recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting and aims to determine the Department of Defence’s intentions for the prominent site, which has remained unused since its closure in 2019 after 119 years of service.
A brief report issued by Kildare County Council noted: "This is a matter for the members to agree."
Cllr Pat Balfe said in the building’s defence: “The Curragh Post Office played an essential role in Irish history. This is about preserving the soul of the place."
In response, all members were in agreement with cllr Balfe’s motion, with next steps surrounding communication with the Department of Defence about the future of the building.
