A woman who spent over €2,300 from a friend’s bank card over a three-day spree in April will have to return to court in September for sentence after being given six months to repay the money.
Karen Duffy (34) with addresses at The Walled Garden, Celbridge and the McVerry Trust in Newbridge appeared in Athy District Court facing 16 counts of theft between 4-6 April 2024 across Kildare and South Dublin.
Sergeant Dave Harahan said the injured party “gave Ms Duffy her bank card” at Cuan Mhuire in Athy on 4 April and the spree began in the Bank of Ireland in Athy.
“Most were in Liffey Valley and Lucan”. The total loss was €2,344.20.
Judge Desmond Zaidan asked: “Was it addiction?”
“I met her in addiction services and she gave me her card to get a few bits,” said Ms Duffy. “I want to pay it back as I got a new job in a café."
