Works to tackle the issue of flooding on the Ballintubbert road from Athy are to be carried out after the problem was raised recently by a local councillor.

At the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District, cllr Aoife Breslin brought forward a motion proposing “that the council carries out works to eliminate the issue of flooding on the Ballintubbert Road, Athy.”

Senior executive officer for transport, mobility and open spaces Mark McLoughlin issued the council’s response which confirmed that the road has been added to the maintenance schedule.

The road connects Athy to the rural Laois townland of Ballintubbert which is roughly 8km to the west, just over the Kildare/Laois border.
