Road works have begun in the rural south Kildare area of Marshalstown and are set to commence at nearby Bolton Hill imminently.

This emerged at the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District where cllr Mark Leigh asked for confirmation from the council on when works would begin at Bolton Hill.

This query followed confirmation from the council in February that the secondary roads in Marshalstown and Bolton Hill – both of which are situated between Castledermot and Moone – were set for resurfacing in 2026.

The council’s written response to cllr Leigh this month had explained that the work had been put out to tender, and that bids from potential contractors were being assessed.

The response further stated that once a contractor was appointed, the council expected that work would start before the end of May.

However, a council official present at Monday’s meeting said that in the time between when the written response was issued and the meeting, the contractor for the job had been appointed.

He said that the contractor had begun carrying out works in Marshalstown on the day of the meeting and will begin works in Bolton Hill imminently.
