Irish rugby international and Kildare native, Jamie Osborne has said he is really enjoying his rugby at the moment, when he spoke to the assembled media this week, ahead of Ireland’s clash against Fiji. Osborne said although he and the Irish side are not content with their recent performances against New Zealand and Argentina, they will be looking to put in a stellar performance this weekend.

The Naas RFC man was very impressive off the bench in Ireland’s win over Argentina last weekend, but Osborne said, “the goal for everyone is probably to start”.

Osborne however did state that he’s “been lucky to be involved as well the last couple of weeks. I’ve covered different positions as well which is good experience I suppose.” The emergence of Osborne at Leinster has been one of the highlights for Ireland this year. His great grandfather Bill was a co-founder of Naas rugby club in 1922, and Jamie of course played underage and senior rugby with Naas RFC.

Jamie’s younger brother, Andrew has also progressed through the Leinster ranks, and scored a try in his Leinster debut, in a victory over Zebre last March.

Jamie stated that following his recent performances, he is hopeful that he will start at least one of the final next two Autumn International fixtures against Fiji and Australia.

The Lilywhite stated that it would be “amazing” if he was to start his first home international game this weekend.

The versatile back, said that everyone back home is very proud of his recent performances in the green shirt, with his youngest brothers “playing minis and youths in Naas and they love going to the games.”

Osborne will make his fourth Irish appearance, and first from the start at the Aviva Stadium, when Ireland face Fiji on Saturday at 2.30pm.

He is one of three Kildare players who will start the game, with a fourth on the bench, full details of the team selection here.
