Punchestown Racecourse: preview and tips for Summer Flat season finale on Tuesday with an action-packed eight-race card The Summer Flat campaign at Punchestown Racecourse comes to a crescendo on Tuesday with an eight-race offering at the track before a brief break ahead of the return of the Jumps.
Tuesday’s action gets underway at 1.55pm with a seven furlong fillies maiden before rounding off at 5.30pm with a division two handicap.
Read below to discover the latest tips and a full meeting preview for Punchestown’s card on Tuesday courtesy of BoyleSports, who offer the latest horse racing odds ahead of the return of the Jumps season.
The opening contest on the card (1.55) sees a field of 13 head to the stalls for the two-year-old fillies’ maiden and there is plenty of promise on show. Trainer Aidan O’Brien and top jockey Ryan Moore team up on Mint Candy in the opener, a very promising Dubawi colt that was second of 14 on debut in a Gowran Park maiden and is sure to go well again here. Of his rivals, Amangani for O’Brien’s son Joseph could emerge as the chief threat having finished third on debut just a fortnight ago.
A field of 15 are set to tackle race two on the card (2.25) which could see Aidan O’Brien land a quickfire double with jockey Moore as Genealogy headlines the mile maiden for two-year-old’s, a Wootton Bassett colt that was second on debut at the Curragh last time and should strip well for that first run.
The Jim Bolger-trained Purple Sky looks the one to beat in race three (2.55) with another big field of 15 tackling the mile handicap, Bolger’s three-year-old being relatively unexposed and upped her game to land a fourth at Gowran Park earlier this month. Avatar Jet heads the list of dangers here for trainer Mark Fahey, a winner at Killarney in July and a fair fourth at Down Royal last time out.
Star Harbour sets a high standard in race four of the afternoon (3.25) off the back of a win at Tipperary in August and a very good second of nine in a Dundalk handicap last month for trainer Ado McGuinness. Akecheta for trainer Kevin Coleman rates the main danger, also a winner at Tipperary earlier this season and second in a minor contest at Roscommon on his last spin.
Joseph O’Brien could land a double on the card in race five (3.55) with Powerful Hook Head, fifth of 13 in a Gowran maiden on debut who is open to improvement having got that run under his belt, while the sixth race on the card (4.30) can go the way of Presence for trainer Jessica Harrington, who opened her winning account at Ballinrobe in July and followed up with a good second in a Galway handicap last time around.
The penultimate race of the Summer Flat season at Punchestown (5.00) is a 47-65 rated division one handicap, with preference heading the way of Jarvis Brook for trainer Paul Nolan, who can defy a 4lb hike in the weights here following a second last time around and making his debut for the trainer, while the finale (5.30) on the card is in division two of the one mile and one furlong handicap and Hale Bopp is given the nod to close the season within a win, looking like she needed the step up in trip when a decent enough sixth at the Curragh 31 days ago.
