Protection order granted after nurse punched husband
Naas Courthouse
A MAN on crutches and wearing a face mask who limped into a closed session of Naas District Court last week was granted a protection order against his allegedly violent wife after claiming she regularly punches him, even with his injuries.
Judge Desmond Zaidan asked the man why he was on crutches, and the appellant told him he had been in a serious car crash and had suffered spinal injuries, but that his nurse wife “punched me when I got home”.
“She punched me on the face, she punched me on the chin,” he said of the incident that allegedly occurred on 19 October.
“She punched me on Sunday. My wife has been violent for years,” he added.
“Why the mask?” asked the judge.
“I’m still immune-compromised,” said the man.
“I had a man in here the other day in a mask, and when I asked why, he said he had TB,” commented the judge.
“I checked straightaway, but fortunately all the windows were open, because that’s a very infectious disease!” said the judge, before granting the appellant a protection order until 8 June, when both parties must appear to tell their updated respective sides of the situation.
