There’s even more jumping action at Punchestown Racecourse this Wednesday afternoon with seven races on the card, including the Grade Three Quevega Mares Hurdle.
Read on for a preview of and tips for the Punchestown card, courtesy of Racing TV, who have all the latest free bets for Cheltenham.
We kick off with an extended two-mile maiden hurdle (1.40). There are no newcomers here, unless a reserve runs, but some are more exposed than others. Of those with more experience, Bulgaden Castle looks promising, having been beaten just a length last time out. Cherry Pink made a good start to hurdling in January over course and distance and will likely take a step forward too.
Race two is a maiden hurdle over half a mile further (2.10). Jack’s Sister and It’s Tim are the only newcomers here, while The Ducks Walk has been seen in point-to-points. It’s Tim is a half sibling to Minella Yoga, which is promising, but Thisain’tthat could have a nice each-way chance at least stepping up to what should be a better trip for him.
The Grade Three Quevega Mares Hurdle follows, run over two and a half miles (2.45). World Of Fortunes tops the ratings , while Cousin Kate is the biggest improver, only five years old and seeking a fourth consecutive win here. She looks to have every chance of winning again here, particularly given her ability to handle soft ground.
A mares maiden hurdle is next, run over two miles and seven furlongs (3.15). Willie Mullins’ How’s Hannah won her latest start in a mares bumper by 13 lengths, so she is fairly hard to oppose here. She does give weight to Torpille Dagrostis, though, whose first start over hurdles last month was most encouraging.
Race five is a handicap hurdle over three miles and a furlong (3.45). Ontheropes is promising with a seven-pound claimer on board, while Small Town Hero is more within his depth in this race, having been outclassed in a Listed race last time, pulling up. He can reclaim his usual good level of form here today.
The penultimate race is a two and a half mile handicap hurdle (4.15). Bruno From Mars could factor if taking to the step back up in trip, while Ellies Rock offered some encouragement last time out over course and distance. She looks worth an eachway chance, but Diamond Dollar looks well treated on his hurdle mark, having won over fences at this point in the handicap in January.
Finally, we wrap up with a four-year-olds’ bumper (4.45). All of the six runners are new starters, so this race could go any direction. Gordon Elliott’s Gili Island looks able on pedigree, but is likely to be better up in trip over obstacles later. Brady Hartsfield should have some speed, and could be the one to side with here.
