A PACKED Dreamland Ballroom was treated to an evening of cinematic music as ‘A Night at the Movies’ returned for its second year, drawing a sold-out audience once again.

The popular fundraiser, organised by Athy Lions Club in partnership with the Kildare Orchestra, featured a programme of iconic film music from classics including Mission: Impossible, James Bond and the works of Ennio Morricone.

Among the highlights of the evening was a moving performance of Gabriel’s Oboe, which featured a stunning solo that captivated the audience.
Speaking after the event, incoming Athy Lions Club President James Reeves said the night exceeded expectations.

“We were very excited about it. It was great to have the Kildare Orchestra back for a second year, and it was wonderful to welcome the Athy Gospel Choir as well,” he said.

“The event was sold out for the second year in a row. It was very interactive, with the conductor getting the crowd on their feet singing, clapping and taking part throughout the evening.” Funds raised from the concert will be shared between Athy Lions Club and the Kildare Orchestra.
“We’re hoping to make it an annual event now,” he said, adding that there is also the possibility of further collaborations with the orchestra.

Special thanks were extended to Linda Byrne and Michael Cusack for their support in organising the event.
Mr Reeves said the concert reflected the strong community spirit in Athy and highlighted the role local organisations play in supporting the town.

“The Lions Club exists to serve the community, so we are always looking for ways to get involved and make Athy a better place to live,” he said.
