Among the highlights of the evening was a moving performance of Gabriel’s Oboe, which featured a stunning solo that captivated the audience.

Speaking after the event, incoming Athy Lions Club President James Reeves said the night exceeded expectations.

“We were very excited about it. It was great to have the Kildare Orchestra back for a second year, and it was wonderful to welcome the Athy Gospel Choir as well,” he said.

“The event was sold out for the second year in a row. It was very interactive, with the conductor getting the crowd on their feet singing, clapping and taking part throughout the evening.” Funds raised from the concert will be shared between Athy Lions Club and the Kildare Orchestra.

“We’re hoping to make it an annual event now,” he said, adding that there is also the possibility of further collaborations with the orchestra.
