Ireland's only Alanis Morissette tribute act, 'Rugged Little Pill'

KILDARE band ‘Panic Animal’, famous for their high-energy performances at wedding venues and pub gigs alike have decided to take on a “passion project” of theirs in an Alanis Morissette tribute act called ‘Rugged Little Pill’.

The members of Panic Animal from Athy were ready to branch out and do something different after leading a very successful career as a wedding band. Frontwoman Ali Davis, who has been a huge fan of Alanis since she was 15, is very excited to get this act off the ground.

The motivation for starting this project came after Ali saw Alanis in concert at the 3 Arena.

“She’s the reason I wanted to be a singer,” she said. “I saw her live and said I’d love the opportunity to do it.”

Some time afterwards the members of Panic Animal got together and started arranging songs for the act. “We’ve been practicing like mad things,” said Ali.

The band is basing the setlist mostly off songs from Morissette’s Grammy-winning album Jagged Little Pill along with a few more of her hits.

“We’re working hard to be as authentic as we can to the album to give people a proper tribute. We want to totally emulate her and her band.”

Rugged Little Pill will launch their first concert in Kavanagh's in Portlaoise on 18 April. Tickets can be purchased through Kavanagh’s website. After that the act will grace Ballintubbert House, Laois on 8 May, the Grand Social, Dublin on 4 July, along with many more exciting performances scheduled.

Tickets for those gigs can be purchased through the Eventbrite website, and more information on upcoming performances can be found on the group's Instagram page at @ruggledlittlepill

The band are hoping to play at Electric Picnic, so keep an eye out for that on social media.
