The fair is set to take place on Saturday 8 March at the ARCH in Athy

A FUNDRAISING book fair has been announced by Athy Lions Club, happening on Saturday 8 March at the ARCH in Athy from 11am to 4pm.

As with all Lions Club events, this fair’s primary purpose is to raise funds for charities.

All are welcome to not only come on the day, but to set up a stall to sell books, with a price of €50 to rent a stall.

Long-time member of Athy Lions Club and self-proclaimed “bibliophile”, Frank Taafe, is heavily involved with each year’s book fair.

The idea for the event hailed from Frank's massive love of reading, which spawned into the opening of the Athy Lions Club Book Shop, a brilliant store and community space on Duke Street in Athy.

Frank sang the praises of Allison Rowan for managing the shop from Tuesday to Saturday every week.

He said: “She’s been a great help to us!”

Aside from the wonderful effect the book fair and has on the community in terms of raised funds for charity, Frank holds the social element of the event in high esteem also.

“It brings in a social scene, an additional social service to the town,” he said.

This year, Athy Lions Club are excited to announce that local chef Graham Herterich will be at the event with his own stall, selling his book BAKE & COOK and will have some tasty treats available on the day.

Come along to this community event and have a browse at books while having a sup of tea and a bite of cake provided on the day to support a very worthy charity.
