College panto will start Christmas in Kilcullen

When the Transition Year Drama Module students at Kilcullen's Cross and Passion College (CPC) stage Aladdin at the end of November, it will be a first time the town has had a traditional panto to start the Christmas season.

In all there are 49 students involved in the show, which is part of a Teen programme Mary McLaughlin is developing called “Eyes Up” (as in Eyes Up off the floor, Eyes Up off your screen) which encourages confidence building and bolsters resilience and mental health in teenagers through the medium of comedy drama.

"There’s a great buzz of excitement around the school which is wonderful to see," said Mary McLaughlin, who is directing the show. "The students are working very hard on what will be an amazing show – with something for all of the family to enjoy."

The performances will be on Wednesday and Thursday 27-28 November in the CPC Assembly Hall and tickets are available online at Eventbrite (Aladdin CPC Christmas Panto) or directly from the school office.

The students playing the principal characters are Aladdin – Seán Plunkett; Princess Jasmine – Bethany Swaine; Widow Twankey – Zoe Moran; Genie of the Lamp – Harry Davies; Abanazar – Savino Simion; Wishee – Sariah Broughall; Washee – Nicola Pytel; and Zohan (Abanazar’s sidekick) – Eyad Amr.
