RESIDENTS of Athy and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the upcoming Athy Community Fair, a free event taking place this May.

On Thursday, 28 May from 10am to 2pm at the Church of Ireland Community Centre, Athy, the event will take place and aims to strengthen community connections and raise awareness of the wide range of supports available locally.

Organised by County Kildare LEADER Partnership’s SICAP Programme, in collaboration with a range of local and national organisations, including Kildare County Council, Sláintecare Healthy Communities, the HSE Health Promotion Unit and the Irish Wheelchair Association.

The 'Know Your Community' initiative offers an opportunity for people of all ages to meet directly with service providers, community groups, and support organisations working across County Kildare. Attendees will be able to learn more about services relating to mental health supports, youth services, healthy living initiatives, social inclusion, education supports, elderly care, transport services, addiction supports, and community development programmes.

The event will also feature free refreshments, opportunities to meet new people, a free health check provided by the Irish Heart Foundation, and interactive activities including a Smoothie Bike. There will be a competition to win one of five €5 Eason vouchers on the day.

The fair forms part of a wider series of “Know Your Community” events being delivered across County Kildare through the SICAP Programme. SICAP - the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme - supports individuals and communities experiencing disadvantage by promoting social inclusion, community participation, and partnership working.

Organisations attending the event include: ALONE, Athy Addiction Service, Athy Community Arts, Athy Family Resource Centre, Athy Library, Athy Resource Centre, Athy Sports Hub, Athy Tidy Town Committee, Athy Youth Diversion, Citizens Information, Connect and Thrive, GROW Mental Health, National Learning Network, and many more.
