THIS June Bank Holiday Weekend, the annual Gordon Bennett Irish classic car run returns for its 23rd year, bringing together over 120 classic and vintage cars of all marques for a spectacular three-day celebration of motoring heritage, scenic touring, and community engagement across Laois, Carlow, and Kildare.

The weekend begins with the Heritage Run, departing from Treacy’s on the Heath at 11am following the drivers’ briefing (with participants gathering from 9am each morning).

The convoy will wind through the scenic countryside of Laois and Kildare before arriving at a private collection of historic and classic cars hosted by Brian King at Grangecon Stud Farm. Guests will enjoy an open-air BBQ lunch, live entertainment, and exclusive access to a private museum and gardens before departing at leisure for the evening.

Sunday sees participants retrace sections of the historic 1903 Gordon Bennett Race route, with a celebratory departure once again from Treacy’s on the Heath at 11am.

Drivers and participants are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the era with tweeds or period-appropriate fancy dress, particularly in keeping with their vehicles.

The evening concludes at the Midlands Park Hotel, where guests will enjoy the Gala Night featuring dinner, live music, entertainment, and spot prizes in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The event is widely regarded by returning participants as a highlight of the weekend.

The final day begins with a leisurely departure at 11am from Treacy’s on the Heath, travelling through Laois and Kildare en route to Athy.

A major stop will take place at Emily Square, Athy, where participants and the public are invited to view the cars and enjoy local hospitality. Visitors are encouraged to explore the nearby Athy Heritage – Shackleton Museum, celebrating the legacy of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton and the town’s rich heritage.

The convoy then returns to Treacy’s on the Heath for the closing BBQ finale, with live music, refreshments, and farewells, culminating in the lowering of the Gordon Bennett Flag to officially close the 2026 event.

Organisers invite the public to come out along the route to wave the cars through, enjoy the spectacle, and meet the drivers at designated stops.

This is a free event for spectators, offering a unique opportunity to experience one of Ireland’s most charming and visually striking classic car gatherings.

Whether enjoying breakfast at Treacy’s on the Heath, photographing the cars along the route, or visiting the various stops throughout the weekend, the Gordon Bennett Irish Classic Car Run promises a memorable experience for all ages.
