TONNES of fun activities are available this year in Kildare under the Cruinniú na nÓg programme, which is a national day dedicated to fostering creativity in children and young people across the country.

Kildare County Council launched the 2025 Cruinniú na nÓg programme, offering a vibrant mix of free creative events for children and young people across the county. Part of Ireland’s national day of youth creativity, the programme runs from May through early June, culminating on Saturday, June 7.

Libraries across Kildare will host a wide range of activities, including music workshops in Athy and Clane, nature crafts in Ballitore, sensory play in Naas, science workshops in Leixlip, and crochet in Castledermot.

Maynooth families can take part in a week-long creative treasure hunt, while teens can enjoy poetry slams, film screenings, and spoken word workshops in Naas and Kilcock.

Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge will host comic and mural-making workshops, while other highlights include puppetry in Celbridge, DJ workshops in Newbridge, and nature-based art sessions at the Irish National Stud & Gardens.

A bilingual programme is also on offer for children wanting to explore their creativity as Gaeilge.

The Cruinniú na nÓg programme also includes ‘This is Art!’, Ireland’s national young people’s art competition supported by RTÉ. Artworks created by young artists from Kildare will be exhibited on screens across Kildare Library Service, as part of a nationwide effort to be Ireland’s ‘largest gallery’ of young people’s art.

All events are free, however, many require advance booking. For full details and booking, visit https://cruinniu.creativeireland.gov.ie.
