BARRETSTOWN, Ireland’s leading provider of psychosocial care for children with cancer and other serious illnesses, has announced its inaugural Half Marathon. In partnership with Naas Athletic Club and sponsored by Boran Packaging, the event will take place on Sunday 6 September, with the starting and finishing lines both located at the iconic Naas Racecourse.

This certified half marathon provides the perfect opportunity for runners to gauge their progress and pacing in a professional racing environment. The event supports Barretstown’s mission to serve 32,000 campers annually, providing life-changing therapeutic programmes in a safe and fun environment.

Starting in Naas Racecourse, the route will guide participants toward Kill, passing through the beautiful Kerdiffstown Park and the village of Sallins. Runners will enjoy the serene views along the Grand Canal before returning to Naas via Main Street from the Harbour, culminating in a celebratory finish at Naas Racecourse.

Barretstown CEO Dee Ahearn spoke of the charity said: “We are delighted to launch our first Half Marathon at the wonderful Naas Racecourse and are very grateful to Boran Packaging for their generous sponsorship and to Naas Athletic Club for their expertise and support.

“Their backing will help make this inaugural event a special day for runners, supporters and the wider community, while raising vital funds for children living with serious illness and their families.” Speaking at the launch, former world 5,000m champion, Olympian and Barretstown half marathon ambassador Eamonn Coghlan said: “I'm proud to support the first ever Barretstown Half Marathon and help raise awareness of the incredible work Barretstown does for children and families affected by cancer and other serious illnesses.

“Every step taken by participants will help create life-changing experiences and I encourage everyone to get involved, whether you're running or supporting from the sidelines.” James Killilea of Naas Athletic Club added: “This event is a fantastic goal for runners. It offers the ideal timing for a test run for those preparing for the Dublin Marathon or if you want to reach a personal goal, all while supporting an incredible cause. It promises to be a brilliant and uplifting day, so come and join us!” Conan Boran of Boran Packaging said the company was proud to support the charity’s first ever half marathon.

“The work Barretstown does is truly life-changing, providing children living with serious illness and their families the opportunity to build confidence and resilience, supported by 24/7 medical care.

“We hope this inaugural event will not only raise funds but also increase awareness of the incredible impact Barretstown has on thousands of families across Ireland.” This is an over-18s event and you can sign up through eventmaster.ie here: https://eventmaster.ie/event/m5EKSyVFM8
