Kildare County Fleadh returns this month
Members of Maynooth Comhaltas who are hosting this year's county fleadh
MAYNOOTH Comhaltas will host the Kildare County Fleadh, which will take place on the weekend of 23-24 May.
This fleadh is being held as a ‘Community Fleadh’ integrating many of our fantastic community groups such as CFR group, Tidy Towns, Maynooth Library, Gaeilge Nuada, Maynooth Autism Friendly Town, our primary and secondary schools and many, many others.
As part of events talented troubadour Daoirí Farrell will be performing in the beautiful St Mary's Church on Thursday 21 May. Daoirí will be joined on stage by some of our younger talent in the branch.
Daoirí Farrell is a product of Dublin’s famous club An Góilin Traditional Singers. Since launching his own solo live career at the 2016 Celtic Connections, Daoirí Farrell has gone from strength to strength.
The 2013 All Ireland Champion Singer has achieved numerous other honours from multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards nominations to ALSR Celtic Music accolades.
Tickets are available on eventbrite, but are limited, so get in there soon!
On Saturday 23 May, a gig rig will be set up on the square, where you can come and soak up the atmosphere of traditional Irish music, with many musicians from around the county playing slots through the afternoon.
The day's programme on the Gig Rig will conclude with the lively Seo Linn. For those not danced out yet, the ceol agus craic will continue both in The Roost live music venue with as well as in the local pubs with the Fleadh Session Trail.
From Thursday through to Sunday, the Fleadh Session Trail will feature the cream of musical talent across Kildare open session in the pubs of the town.
The competitions on Sunday are open to all and are in themselves a fascinating look at the up and coming musicians in the county showcasing their phenomenal talent and commitment.
