Kildare native illustrates Antarctic explorer in new graphic novel
Dave Butler will launch his book this weekend
Kildare man, Dave Butler, will launch , a new graphic novel illustrated by David and written by writer Michael Smith, and with lettering by Louise McSharry.
Originally from Kildare, Butler now resides in Portarlington, County Laois, with his wife and three children. A graduate of the prestigious Dún Laoghaire Film Institute of Ireland’s Animation Production Course, Butler has enjoyed a successful career in animation, contributing to several award-winning projects including Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’.
In addition to his work in the arts, Butler has balanced a long-standing career at Pfizer in Newbridge, where he has held various roles since 2002. His dual passions for visual storytelling and community engagement shine through in this latest collaboration.
The O’Brien Press will host a special event on Saturday, May 17 at 3pm in Kildare Town Library to celebrate the launch of the book The book tells the remarkable true story of Tom Crean, a humble farm boy from Ireland who became a key figure in some of the most daring polar expeditions of the early 20th century.
Crean’s journey from rural poverty to international acclaim as an Antarctic explorer is both inspiring and unforgettable, capturing the courage and resilience of one of Ireland’s greatest unsung heroes.
