A FREE community event will be held in Athy to mark World Mental Health Day, aimed at promoting positive mental health, reducing isolation and raising awareness of the wide range of support services available locally.
The World Mental Health Day information morning will take place on Tuesday 13 October from 10.30am to 1.30pm in Athy Library, Convent Lane. The event is free of charge and open to everyone in the community.
Sláintecare Healthy Communities local development officer Maria Healy told the that it is an opportunity for members of the public to “get to know what’s in their area, maybe speak to some of the service providers, and it’s a way for them to know that even if they don’t need it right now, where they might look to for supports or services if and when they did need it”.
The morning will provide an opportunity for local people to meet, connect and learn about the services, groups and supports available in the Athy area. Attendees will be able to speak directly with local organisations, access practical information and discover resources that can support mental wellbeing.
In addition to information stands and community networking opportunities, a free Essential Oils Workshop will be offered during the morning. This relaxing, hands-on session will focus on self-care and the use of aromatherapy to help manage stress and support wellbeing.
Organisers hope the event will encourage open conversations about mental health while helping people feel more connected to their community and local support networks. Guests can also enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and pastries throughout the morning.
The event is organised by Sláintecare Healthy Communities, Kildare County Council and the HSE, in partnership with County Kildare Leader Partnership, Peter McVerry Trust, Kildare Traveller Action and Athy Community and Family Resource Centre.
